Monroe County Green Party

Political CampaignsThe Monroe County Green Party ran its first political candidate in 2002. Julie Roberts ran for County Council in District 5 and won nearly 15% of the vote. That year Jeff Melton also ran as the Indiana Green Party candidate for US Congress in district 9. Currently, we are planning for the elections of 2006. So far, we have a dedicated Green Party member and former state co-coordinator, Bill Stant of Brown County, who has been nominated by the Indiana Green Party for the position of Secretary of State. This position is particularly important for any third party in Indiana, because running a candidate in this position is the way to obtain ballot access. If the Indiana Green Party runs a candidate in that race and obtains at least 2% of the vote, then the Green Party will have ballot access for the next four years. |
